Quarters: City center

Living in the city center

Right in the middle of the action and yet close to nature: the city center offers this quality. The 42-hectare Bürgerpark, for example, is a popular meeting place: with a beach bar, romantic ponds and boat hire. In the warmer months, you can explore the Oker on SUP boards, pedal boats and rowing boats or have a barbecue on rafts, accompanied by a magician or a murder mystery reading. A walk through the museum or theater park, on the other hand, can be combined with a visit to the state theater, with dance theater, a concert or an evening of drama. And the Inselwallpark on the north-western edge of the city center is particularly popular with students. It is characterized by beautiful circular paths, garden art, a fountain and large sunbathing lawns close to the university.

Culture and charm combined Historic places, creative stores and pop art right in the city center

Idyllic places can also be found quickly in the city center: for example, on the medieval Burgplatz with St. Blasii Cathedral, the classicist Vieweghaus and the imposing Lion Monument, the city's most famous landmark. The Magniviertel, meanwhile, is appreciated for its individual small stores, the large number of attractive cafés, pubs and restaurants and the historic half-timbered buildings. The oldest half-timbered house, at the Ackerhof, was built in 1432. At the entrance, the colorful Happy Rizzi House by pop artist James Rizzi is a popular photo motif.

The center of diversity Culture, shopping and enjoyment

The neighboring Schlossplatz square is regularly bustling with activity around the equestrian statues and the fountain. Here, the Schloss-Arkaden offers 150 stores and restaurants on three floors. Behind the rebuilt façade of the former residential palace are the palace museum, the versatile city library and the Red Hall for cozy cultural events.

The Kohlmarkt is one of the most popular places to eat ice cream, pizza and drink coffee. The central meeting point in the pedestrian zone is also the venue for numerous events, such as the Wine Summer, the Festival of Cultures and the Mumme Genussmeile specialty market. In winter, you can skate on an ice rink here and meet up for a game of curling.

Brunswick city center The pulse of the city

In addition to the more than 700 small and large stores, bistros, cafés and restaurants, what else does the city center have to offer? For example, the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, one of the most important art museums in Germany. In the Komödie am Altstadtmarkt, you can have fun with boulevard and entertainment plays, the Astor Filmtheater and the Universum are meeting places for cinema fans, and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Viertel with its clubs and bars is the trendy district for night owls. The Volkswagen Halle, which hosts major concerts, shows and sporting events, is also within easy walking distance.

The city center combines tradition and modernity, liveliness and tranquility - and all of this close to home. BBG manages around 400 apartments in the district.
